Poor Mr. Ben Ali. Here is a man in power for over twenty years, who did everything to the development of his country, whose wife was actively involved in economic management and is misunderstood by Westerners. The Tunisian people going to the unanimous reelection for a fourth time October 25 and, despite the unanimous domestic support, it is the subject of smear campaigns, smear. Fortunately, there are some brave defenders of Mr. Ben Ali, who, against the current, dare to speak out against these calumnies. Accustomed trays of French television, posing as a democrat, Antoine Sfeir, no hesitation. It has already stepped into the breach repeatedly. He remade in Le Figaro on October 23, “Tunisia is a bulwark against the fundamentalist tide in the region”
(…) “Tunisia has certainly a long way before it, nobody disputes that. Yet we must recognize that the country has grown steadily since coming to power of Ben Ali. It is a fact that all international organizations are in their reports. It is this openness and the gradual consolidation of public life that I want to speak today without reaching a blind eye to the problems to be resolved.
(…)
The status of women is also a credit to the outgoing president: 25% of women in Parliament, Tunisia is better than France. As before Turkey, which granted women the right to vote ten years before France … And everybody knows the active members of Tunisian men and women!
In addition, Tunisia has clearly taken sides in the fight against religious fundamentalism. The scheme is inflexible vis-à-vis any embryo Islamist proselytism, but carries along with its repressive policies extensive education campaign, supported by a moderate and peaceful practice of religion. It is for this reason that the country is truly a bulwark against the fundamentalist tide in the region and for this reason also that Tunisia is a critical issue, and a prime target for Islamic extremism and terrorism. If she were to fall, he should be feared again to Algeria, but also Morocco, Libya and perhaps even Egypt, all threatened by a domino effect.
(…) Let us pause a moment to speak of Tunisia to watch the Tunisians, who, themselves, act, “writes our courageous intellectual. He is sparing no effort and defends Tunisia wherever he can.
Thus in Geneva at the press club where “Tunisia has its finery” (sic) written on the site of La Tribune de Genève, Gorgui NDOYE in his blog Continent Premier, which gives, it seems, ” other information about Africa. ”
“Antoine Sfeir, the head of the reviewed studies and reflection on the Arab and Muslim world, the author of Tunisia, land of paradoxes, published in 2006 by Editions de l’Archipel, opened last Les Cahiers de l ‘ east, the journal is devoted to the land of Ben Ali with the title “The exception of Tunisia. Six major titles suggestive texts to have the ambition to make “progress (who) have been made towards democratization and consolidation of public life” by the same editorial by Antoine Sfeir “Eating the grape “. Thus reads: A bulwark against fundamentalism, Tunisia in the city, archaeological heritage and cultural renewal, economic successes confirmed, the instruments of solidarity.
Antoine Sfeir, said that the Cahiers de l’Orient, winter 2010, “seeks to show how the Tunisian people has, increasingly, a place in the Arab region, and appears as an example for the entire region. ” An example for the Arab world but also for Africa. At least, some believe that African journalists. Indeed, a few days ago, African journalists co-authored the book “The Emerging Tunisia: a means for Africa”, published by Editions median in Paris, presenting their work in Paris of 262 pages, bringing together eighteen contributions of African journalists and personalities of various specialties. ”
Sfeir presented his views alongside Francis Bechet, author of another book advocating Ben Alin (that Sfeir preface).
Understandably, in these difficult conditions, that the books of Sfeir and Bechet, that the Cahiers de l’Orient, are heavily purchased by Tunisia, which has not, moreover a monopoly on these practices, several other major Democratic African financing books to the glory of their great democratic republic.
These books and magazines are acclaimed on all sites of the system. And about Sfeir and others are largely accepted as the site of the newspaper La Presse, “The middle class in the heart of the social project initiated by President Ben Ali” (October 23), who rents the latest issue of the journal Sfeir of Les Cahiers de l’Orient, on Tunisia and writes that “the quarterly journal of research and reflection on the Arab and Muslim points out in its editorial, the osmosis between power and Tunisian people. ”
Obviously, do not skimp on money and resources when we should fight a propaganda conducted by all officers of fundamentalism in Europe, those who would prefer to see in Tunis an undemocratic Islamist regime rather than the general Democrat Ben Ali.
Here are some examples of hostile propaganda, should be avoided at all costs:
Nicolas Beau and Catherine Graciet, The Regent of Carthage. Hands Over Tunisia, The Discovery, a book that dares to question Mrs. Ben Ali in the generalized system of corruption in this country. The book is at the top of the sales of the best books in France which shows the level of misinformation in France - some evil tongues say that, as on other occasions, the Tunisian Embassy in Paris has bought hundreds of copies for “empty” the libraries of this negative propaganda.
On the so-called violations of human rights, apart from Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, there is a particularly harmful, the Committee for the Respect of Freedoms and Human Rights in Tunisia (CRLDHHT ).
It must also condemn the World journalist, Florence Beauge - rightly expelled from Tunisia October 21 - but continues to publish: “In Tunisia, a poorly shared economic success” (October 23).
Finally, Le Monde Diplomatique himself involved in these smear campaigns: “Revolt of the” people of mines in Tunisia, “Karine Gantin and Omeyya Seddik, July 2008.
Fortunately, until further notice, Le Monde and Le Monde Diplomatique, are banned from entering Tunisia. What Tunisian citizen, while his unconditional admiration for the great leader would buy such sheets?
